Course Outline: 

Are you wanting to learn the handpan to experience beautiful melodious sounds and mindfulness? Why not begin your mindful music adventure with this magical instrument called the handpan. This workshop is perfect for beginners who want to dip their toes into self-awareness and the practice of being present with this instrument. Consult with the master makers of this instrument if you decide you want to purchase an instrument going forward. 8 handpans are provided in the workshop so no need to bring one. The workshop will take 8 people without instruments but can accomodate 2 more with own instruments, handpans in D minor.

About the teacher: 

Baran Yildiz is a Sydney based multi-instrumentalist and renowned as one of Australia's most talented handpan players. Baran's music combines melodies and rhythms of the Anatolia, Middle East and Africa with a modern touch on the hand pan, piano and various percussion instruments. Originally trained in classical piano and jazz drums, Baran has gradually become a contemporary world music composer. Baran has released two albums: ‘Interbeing’ (September 2019) and Bridging Worlds (October 2023), blending various modern world and neo-classical music elements to present enchanting instrumental soundscapes. Baran pushes the boundaries of the handpan instrument through experimenting with different melodic layers and collaborating with other leading instrumentalists. At our workshop, you will experience:

1. Introduction to playing the handpan for beginners

2. Use of a handpan for the duration of the workshop

3. Baran's expert guidance

4. Consultation with the master makers of this instrument if you decide you want to purchase an instrument going forward

5. Lunch - Gourment Fired Pizza (GF)

6. Time to socialise and enjoy the surounds of the beautiful Blue Mountains 

Cost: $170 includes lunch (you may choose to use Pay in 4 via PayPal to divide the payments up).
